For the last 35 years the Edmonton Police Service has used specially trained officers to deal with certain high-risk situations. From it’s inception as Task Force Section in 1973 and later renamed EPS Tactical Section, the EPS has trained officers to deal with some of the most complex and dangerous situations.
Tactical Unit members are highly trained to address any high risk incident.
To properly protect not only the officers but the public as well, the Tactical Section uses very specialized equipment like the Remote Mechanical Investigator (bomb robot) and the “Grizzly” armoured personnel carrier.
The officers within the Tactical Section constantly train to deal with just about any situation one could imagine.
The Edmonton Police Service Tactical Section plays a key role within the Alberta Tactical Officers Association, ensuring open communication and cross-training opportunities with other law enforcement agencies in the province.
