10. Expand your career and knowledge

The EPS encourages long-term learning, and a variety of opportunities are available.

We want you to become a better police officer, and to grow as an individual. For this reason, the EPS offers many in-house courses to help you develop your career path within the Service. Course topics may include forensic interviewing, crime prevention through environmental design and media communications. And the best part is that with several of the courses offered you will be granted elective credits towards the University of Alberta’s Management Development Certificate for Police Services.

If you’re interested in earning a degree, the EPS offers education reimbursements to members who have completed three years of service and are enrolled in a degree, certificate, or diploma program at a recognized post-secondary institute ($600 for certificate and diploma programs; $1,500 for bachelor degree programs; and $3,000 for graduated degree programs per budget year). Members who have less than three years of service will receive 50% of the education reimbursement of the amounts mentioned above.
