Law Enforcement Torch Run

In Alberta, Law Enforcement Torch Run has been active since the late 1980s. Members of a variety of law enforcement organizations throughout Alberta help raise funds for Special Olympics. These organizations also help celebrate the accomplishments of these athletes by carrying the Flame of Hope to each Special Olympics event.

The Edmonton Police Service has made the Law Enforcement Torch Run our official charity. EPS, in partnership with the Alberta LETR raises funds for the Special Olympics, Alberta through a host of events every year. These events are usually the Heroes Running for Heroes event, and the infamous Polar Plunge.

The 2017 Polar Plunge had special guests, Olympic figure skater Jamie Sole, and CBC’s Rick Mercer jump in! You can watch the Edmonton event above, thanks to the Rick Mercer Report, which aired on Tuesday, January 31, 2017.

Thanks to the nearly 200 plungers in Edmonton, we took a $60,000 chunk out of the $250,000 province-wide goal in 2020!

Stay tuned to our social media, our website and the Law Enforcement Torch Run website for details at the end of the year for details on your next chance to dive in. We'd love to see you take the plunge!
