Call for service - August 19 - August 24, 2024

Assault

On Aug. 19 at 12:10 p.m., police responded to a reported assault in the area of 49 Street and 137 Avenue. It was reported to police that a female was leaving a business in the area when she was chased, unprovoked, by an unknown male with a knife. The female was able to retreat to her vehicle and was not injured; however, the vehicle was significantly damaged. Officers quickly located the suspect and took him into custody without incident. Search incident to arrest, police located a knife on the accused. Charges are pending.

Assault

On Aug. 20, 2024, at 11:33 p.m., police responded to a local hospital for the report of an injured female who had been assaulted. It was reported to police that she had been assaulted outside of a library in the area of 115 Avenue and 95 Street while trying to stop an assault on her friend by three individuals. The female sustained serious injuries. Police continue to investigate.

Personal Robbery

At 5:58 p.m. on Aug. 23, 2024, police responded to the Meadows Rec Centre for the report of two males with a machete who had attempted to steal an individual’s personal belongings and then fled the scene. A short time later, police received another report of a group of youth at a bus stop, one of whom had a machete. The group reportedly boarded a bus to Tamarack. Police responded to the Tamarack area and located the group and the machete, which had been discarded into a bush. Charges are pending.

Weapons complaint

On Aug. 24, 2024, at 12:40 p.m., officers responded to the area of 105 Avenue and 117 Street for a weapons complaint. Reportedly, a male suspect was threatening construction workers with a meat cleaver and attempting to climb scaffolding to attack other workers. Upon arrival, the suspect was located a short distance away and was taken into custody without incident. An adult male is facing numerous charges in relation to this incident.
