Police have recorded nine shootings in January 2025, the same number Edmonton saw during the same month in 2024.

Of the nine reported shootings in January 2025, seven are believed to be targeted and five resulted in reported injuries. There were three deaths as a result of shooting occurrences last month. In six of the nine shootings, there was potential for innocent bystanders to be harmed.
“This past month, we saw a consistent number of shootings” says Staff Sergeant Eric Stewart, with the EPS Guns and Gangs Section. “As we embark on the new year, we remain committed to keeping gun violence at bay in Edmonton.”
Police seized 57 firearms in January as compared to 80 at this time last year.
