Edmonton shooting totals remain steady in October

Last month’s shooting totals are consistent with 2023’s numbers.

Police have recorded 13 shootings in October 2024, matching the 13 shootings Edmonton saw during the same month in 2023. As of October 31, 2024, shootings are down 46% year to date compared to the same timeframe in 2023.

Of the 13 reported shootings in October 2024, nine are believed to be targeted, and three resulted in injuries. In twelve of the thirteen shootings, there was potential for innocent bystanders to be harmed. Of the shots where targets can be accounted for, six were fired at people, three were aimed at a building or residence, and two of the shootings targeted vehicles.

“Overall, we are still seeing our downward trend continue with a 46% reduction in shootings compared to last year, and the EPS remains committed to investigating every shooting and charging those responsible," says Staff Sergeant Eric Stewart, with the EPS Guns and Gangs Section. 

Police seized 94 firearms in October, and 695 overall in 2024. This time last year, 733 firearms were seized over the same time period.
