MRU #: TR24R034

Edmonton Police Service (EPS) Major Collision officers are investigating a fatal incident that occurred early this morning.

Today, Saturday, Aug. 31, 2024, at approximately 8:50 a.m., Southeast Branch patrol officers responded to the report of a single vehicle collision on Sherwood Park Freeway. Reportedly an 89-year-old male was westbound on Sherwood Park Freeway just past 50 Street approaching the off ramp to either continue west onto 82 Avenue or exit onto Argyll Road when he struck the centre dividing barrier.

EMS attended the scene and rushed the male to hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Major Collision Investigation Section (MCIS) responded to the scene to take over the investigation.

It does not appear that speed was a factor in this collision.
