For Immediate Release: 09-Jun-2024 @ 4:00 PM
MRU #: A-R24008

A male suspect sustained life-threatening injuries following an officer-involved shooting, and the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is investigating.

On Sunday, Jun. 9, 2024, at approximately 4:40 a.m., Downtown Branch officers were dispatched to a reported assault at a residence in the area of 109 Avenue and 93 Street. It was reported to police that a 33-year-old male suspect had assaulted another male at the home.

When police arrived, the male suspect exited the residence carrying a weapon, and a confrontation occurred between the suspect and police, resulting in the officers discharging their firearms. The 33-year-old male was struck and sustained life-threatening injuries. He was treated and transported to hospital, where he is currently in stable condition.

A gunshot was found to have struck a neighbouring residence, but no one in the residence was injured. No other civilians or EPS officers were injured during this incident.

A 46.1 notification has since been provided to the Alberta Director of Law Enforcement, who has directed ASIRT to conduct an investigation into this officer-involved shooting.

As such, the EPS cannot provide any additional information at this time. All further media inquiries should be directed to ASIRT.
