ASIRT investigating officer-involved shooting

At approximately 7:44 p.m., Saturday, May 25, 2024, a uniformed on-duty Edmonton Police Service (EPS) officer attended a gas station in the area of 93 Street and 144 Avenue. 

At the entrance to the business, the officer encountered a male with a weapon and immediately called for assistance. A confrontation occurred and the officer discharged their firearm, striking the man.

Life-saving measures were commenced until EMS arrival. The male was then treated and transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries where he remains. No EPS members were injured during this event. A suspected conducted energy weapon (CEW) was located at the scene.

The Director of Law Enforcement was notified of the incident and has directed the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) to investigate. As such, the EPS cannot provide any additional information at this time. All further media inquiries should be directed to ASIRT.
