Massage therapist charged with sexual assault; police seek additional complainants

For Immediate Release: 08-Nov-2024 @ 4:00 PM
MRU #: SA24R008

Edmonton Police Service (EPS) Sexual Assault Section investigators have arrested and charged a 49-year-old man in relation to sexual assaults reported at an Edmonton massage clinic and have reason to believe there may be other complainants.

In August 2024, police began investigating the report of a sexual assault by a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) at a massage clinic in south Edmonton. While this investigation was taking place, three additional complainants reported similar concerns involving the same male RMT.

Satish Poojari, 49

Satish Poojari, 49, has been charged with four counts of sexual assault. His next court appearance is Thursday, Dec. 12, 2024.

The Certified Registered Massage Therapist Association (CRMTA), a governing body for the industry, has cancelled Satish Poojari’s RMT licence.

Police believe that Satish Poojari may still be practicing massage therapy in Edmonton and are encouraging any other complainants to come forward.

“If you have been victimized by Satish Poojari, we are hopeful that you will come forward and report it to police,” says A/Det. Candace Werestiuk with the EPS Sexual Assault Section. “We believe there may be other complainants, and we want to check on their wellbeing and assure them that they will have access to appropriate supports.”

Anyone who believes they have been targeted by Satish Poojari is asked to contact the EPS at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone.
