Last month’s shooting totals are lower than 2023’s numbers and mark the ninth month of decreased shooting reports this year, compared to last year.

Police have recorded six shootings in November 2024, compared to the 11 shootings Edmonton saw during the same month in 2023. As of November 30, 2024, shootings are down 46% year to date compared to the same timeframe in 2023.

Shootings by month in 2024 and 2023

Of the six reported shootings in November 2024, five are believed to be targeted and three resulted in reported injuries. There was one death as a result of shooting occurrences this month. In all six shootings, there was potential for innocent bystanders to be harmed.

“It’s encouraging to see that over 80% of our monthly shootings data this year has been reported as a decrease,” says Staff Sergeant Eric Stewart, with the EPS Guns and Gangs Section. “As we look to the end of the year, we remain committed to tackling serious crimes and keeping firearms off of our streets.”

Police seized 61 firearms in November, and 755 overall in 2024. This time last year, 745 firearms were seized over the same time period.
