“A 50% decrease compared to May 2023 is significant and we are hopeful this is an indicator of a continued decrease in shooting occurrences over the summer months,” says Staff Sergeant Eric Stewart with the EPS Guns and Gangs Section.

“Likewise, the decrease in the number of firearms seized so far this year leaves us optimistic that our targeted efforts to reduce gun crime are working as intended.”

Police seized 70 firearms in May, and 332 overall in 2024. This time last year, 521 firearms were seized in the same time period.
