Police investigating report of an attempted child abduction

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) is investigating a reported attempted abduction of a youth in southeast Edmonton on Thursday.

On Thursday, Jun. 6, 2024, at approximately 7:20 p.m., a Sprinter-style cargo van was traveling east on 38 Avenue near 55 Street when it reportedly approached a 12-year-old male who was walking home. The van was reportedly occupied by two females, one of whom got out of the van and told the youth to get in. The youth fled home, and the incident was reported to police.

The van is described as a black or dark grey, tall “Amazon” style or Sprinter-like cargo van. The suspect who reportedly spoke to the youth is described as a white female with a medium build, approximately 30 years old, with shoulder length brown hair, wearing a black dress.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity involving a vehicle similar to the suspect vehicle to contact police at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone.
