Death of male marks fifth motorcycle fatality of 2024

A 23-year-old Edmonton man has died as a result of a motorcycle collision that occurred last week in southeast Edmonton.

On Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at approximately 10 p.m., it was reported to police that a 23-year-old male was driving a Suzuki GSXR 600 motorcycle on the northbound exit ramp at 91 Street and Anthony Henday Drive, when he lost control of his bike and collided with the left turning lane median.

At that time, EMS treated and transported the male to hospital with serious injuries, where he remained until today, before succumbing to his injuries.

“Life for a motorcyclist can be fleeting, there and gone in mere seconds,” says Staff Sgt. Mike Wasylyshen, of the EPS Major Collision Investigations Section.

“Mothers, fathers, siblings, friends and police have seen far too many people lose their lives as a result of motorcycle collisions over the years. In most cases, speed almost always plays a role. I want motorcyclists to enjoy the experience of riding a bike, though I want them to also have a healthy respect for their own mortality and please slow down.”

This latest fatality marks the fifth motorcyclist death of 2024.
