Police lay charge in September 2024 homicide

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) has charged a 20-year-old Edmonton man in relation to a river valley homicide that took place last September.

On Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024, at approximately 9 a.m., pedestrians in the river valley near 100 Street and 91 Avenue, in the area of Nellie McClung Park, came across an injured male. EMS attended and declared the man deceased on scene.

The Edmonton Medical Examiner completed an autopsy on Tuesday, Sep. 17, 2024, and confirmed that the deceased, identified as Brandon Lee Cardinal, 30, died as a result of a gunshot wound. The manner of death was confirmed to be homicide.

On Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025, EPS Homicide Section detectives arrested and charged Kellen Lee Carr-Mandrusiak, 20, with second degree murder in relation to Cardinal’s death.
