For Immediate Release: 18-Sep-2024 @ 4:00 PM
MRU #: 24R079

The Edmonton Police Service is investigating a suspicious fire that took place in southwest Edmonton early this morning.

At 4:27 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2024, Edmonton Fire Rescue Services (EFRS) was called regarding a large structural fire in the Deroschers neighbourhood. It was reported that a large multi-unit complex was on fire at approximately 4 a.m. in the area of 119 Street SW and 35 Avenue SW. Approximately 70 people were displaced by the fire and no injuries have been reported at this time.

Working closely with EFRS investigators, detectives with the EPS Investigative Response Team (IRT) are now investigating the fire as suspicious and are asking Edmontonians in the immediate area for their home security and dash camera footage.

“Officers will be canvassing the area in the coming days to collect dash camera or home security video footage that was actively recording at 1 a.m. or later on Sept. 18, 2024,” says Det. Chantelle Kortbeek with IRT. “Anyone with a camera active at this time is asked to please retain that footage and contact police.”

Anyone with the requested video footage or other information related to the fire can contact the EPS at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone. Anonymous information can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.p3tips.com/250.
