Police investigating fatal hit-and-run collision involving teen

Investigators seeking dashcam video footage

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) is investigating an early-morning fatal hit-and-run collision involving a 13-year-old male cyclist.

At approximately 4:05 a.m. today, Wednesday, May 29, 2024, Southeast Branch patrol members were called to assist EMS regarding a hit-and-run collision involving a young cyclist and a vehicle at 48 Street and 34 Avenue. Paramedics initially found the teen male in medical distress on scene. He subsequently succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter.

EPS members have confirmed the collision occurred in the eastbound lanes of 34 Avenue east of 48 Street. The EPS Major Collision Investigations Section (MCIS) was called out to scene and has since taken over the investigation.

The suspect vehicle has since been identified
as a blue 2014-2018 Mazda 3 sedan or hatchback. The suspect vehicle incurred damage to its front end and driver side.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of this vehicle or its driver is asked to contact police. Investigators are also asking anyone driving through the Mill Woods area that has dash camera footage of the collision and/or the suspect vehicle leaving the scene to contact EPS at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone.
