EPS hits the road to crackdown on faulty commercial vehicles

13-May-2024

“If we find them, they’ll get put out of service.”

EPS is involved in joint forces operations to ensure operators of commercial vehicles are doing their jobs safely on Alberta roads.

“These vehicles are large, heavy, commercial trucks. They don't stop quickly, and they require heavy-duty parts that fail, and if you don't inspect them properly, it could be catastrophic,” said EPS Constable Trevor Henderson.

EPS has teamed up with several law enforcement agencies to stage a series of Check Stops around the province. Officers perform a 37 point inspection, and they usually pull over around 200 vehicles during a Check Stop.

“Out of all the vehicles that we've stopped, 50% of them are out of service. They can't go any further until that that mechanical issue is fixed, and nine times out of ten it’s an easy fix,” said Henderson.
