Right now, it’s a dirt parking lot with sagging wooden dividers. Located on the northwest corner of 105 Street and 102 Avenue, this worn-out lot is about to get new life. Today, Acting Chief Tony Harder joined Mayor Iveson, Decoteau descendant Izola Mottershead and Chris Buyze, President of the Downtown Edmonton Community League to break ground on Alex Decoteau Park.
“Parks like this create safe zones,” said Acting Chief Harder in his remarks to the onlookers. “They attract good people, and that helps our downtown core stay safe and vibrant.” When completed, the park will feature water fountains, a fenced off-leash area, public art and a community vegetable garden.
