EPS Emergency Communications is a family affair

16-Feb-2024

They're a father-daughter duo in the Edmonton Police Service Emergency Communications & Operations Branch (ECOMB), and they just celebrated a major milestone together.

Emergency Communications Officer (ECO) Glen Garner was presented with his 35-year Long Service Award by his daughter, Jenna, who is also an ECO.

"It is hard to believe 35 years have passed," Glenn said following the ceremony. "Over the 35 years, there have been so many changes within the EPS and policing. One thing that seems to remain the same is the great people who work within the EPS. There are so many wonderful memories and some that are not. Having my daughter there for my 35-year pin presentation will be a great memory."

Glen became a sworn member of the Edmonton Police Service (EPS) on November 14, 1988 and retired in 2017 after 30 years of service. He retired on a Friday; the following Monday, Glen started as a civilian ECO. He has been a dispatcher ever since.

Glen's daughter Jenna joined EPS as a civilian ECO in 2021 and has worked through the roles of 9-1-1, Police Call Evaluator and Communications Training Officer. Jenna was recently selected to join Class #9 of the Emergency Communications & Operations Branch (ECOMB) civilian dispatch training program to become a police dispatcher.

Jenna presented her dad with his Long Service Award and then sat with him as he showed her the ropes of dispatching.

Congratulations, Glen, on 35 years of service and for recruiting Jenna to follow in your footsteps! We are proud to have both Garners as members of the ECOMB team.
