Edmonton Police Service now offers civil fingerprinting services twice a month at Southeast Division.
As the Police Information Check Section (PICS) was the only place where citizens were able to get civil fingerprinting done, it can come as a challenge for some people living in other parts of the city. Not only that, PICS has seen an increased demand for people needing the service.
Civil Fingerprinting services are used for various purposes, such as:
- Immigration
- Adoption
- Legal Name Changes
- Record suspensions
- Waivers/Visas, foreign travel/Immigration to another country
- Employment
- Vulnerable Sector
In efforts to level this out and make fingerprinting more accessible to the public, PICS is now offering mobile fingerprinting at Southeast Division. The service is open from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on two Thursdays each month to gauge what kind of response is received, before considering expansion or rotation to other divisions. There are no supplementary fees to EPS for civil fingerprinting – only the standard fees apply, which varies based on the specific type of fingerprints required.
The mobile fingerprint solution adds a second option
for those needing fingerprinting services at Southeast Division.
PICS strongly encourages people to book an appointment ahead of time to avoid long wait times. Walk ins are also accepted, but priority will be given to those with an appointment. Appointments can be booked online for fingerprinting at Southeast division here.
These services take place in the community room at Southeast to allow direct access from the front door, so it has no impact on the front counter.
The fingerprinting technology is the same from what is used at PICS, the only difference is that the machine is portable and can operate via WIFI.
The mobile fingerprint station
Police information checks cannot be done at Southeast division; the service is for civil fingerprinting only.
PICS encourages those who need a police information check to fill out the online form here.
