Everyone at some time will face difficulty in dealing with an issue that affects their health, happiness, personal and family lives and/or their performance at work. This may include one or more of the following:
- Stress at home or on the job,
- Family problems,
- Marriage and relationship challenges,
- Problems with alcohol or drugs,
- Anxiety, depression and other psychological problems,
- Financial difficulties,
- Job performance issues,
- Conflict with supervisor, colleagues or the public,
- Grief and loss issues,
- Other traumatic events.
Early and accurate identification of the issues, together with strong professional support, provides the key to preventing more serious problems in the future.
The EPS and the Human Resources Division are committed to the health and wellness of all of our employees. In support of that, the EPS provides a variety of confidential, short-term counselling services designed to meet a wide range of needs for both sworn and non-sworn members, including spouses or cohabitating partners, as well as any dependent children.
For sworn members and their families, the EPS has implemented a confidential counselling service that allows members to choose their counsellor from a list of pre-approved external providers.
For non-sworn members and their families, the EPS has engaged the services of Homewood Health to provide confidential counselling services.
The EPS Chaplain is also available to provide confidential assistance and counselling to all sworn and non-sworn members and their families in times of personal or professional crisis.
