Cory Donald

Hello, my name is Cory Donald, I am a Registered Psychologist and the founder of FORWARD Psychology & Wellness. I am a dedicated and experienced psychologist and an avid runner.

As a psychologist, I pride myself on honesty and integrity, communicating clearly and developing genuine rapport with my clients. I utilize Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Narrative Therapy; all of which rest on a foundation that can be described as Positive Psychology. I practice from a non-judgmental, strength-based perspective, providing individual clients with an experience that is tailored for them. As a believer in the relentless pursuit of a self-defined better, I am intentional in my approach. I champion individuality and creativity.

I work with adolescent and adult clients seeking support for a variety of challenges. I have a wealth of experience treating individuals struggling with anxiety and low mood / depression. Many clients choose my practice when they are seeking to make changes or transitions both professionally and personally. I also see many self-described high achievers; individuals who expect a lot from themselves and wish to keep moving in the direction of their choosing, to explore and develop new and different ways of being, and to further optimize their lives.

At FORWARD, we offer psychotherapy across a variety of contexts; we see clients in-office, online and outdoors, on the move. FORWARD exists as a blending of options for clients and a synthesis of the body and mind in therapy. Combining movement and talk-therapy is a next step in the evolution of how we access, obtain and maintain holistic health and wellness. Our boutique-style office is located in the historic Ritchie Mill building in the heart of the mature, tree-canopied streets of Old Strathcona. Our outdoor approach to therapy, Physically Active Talk Therapy, combines movement, walking and running, with talk therapy for individuals seeking the year-round option of an approach that frees them from the office.

Professionally, it is my belief that combining running and walking with traditional talk therapy is a natural fit. Personally, having been an avid runner for over two decades, I have experienced the benefits of working through challenges, developing solutions and creating new ways of being, while on the move. I fundamentally believe that each of us possesses what we require for change and growth. My approach to therapy seeks to assist clients in moving themselves in the direction of their choosing, recognizing strengths, adapting to challenges and authoring their lives, through awareness and with intention.

Both my professional and personal experience with outdoor movement supports current research which posits that, along with the natural calming effects of being outdoors on the move, through mindful running, walking and connecting with nature, one can creatively engage with challenges and access solutions in a manner that feels fluid and natural.

Many of our clients at FORWARD are not sure how they would like to proceed with therapeutic support. Most of our clients engage in talk therapy across more than one context; a walk on a beautiful day, an office session with a hot cup of tea when it’s blustery and cold, or online, when that approach suits the day best. With FORWARD, you are in control.
