Hello!  My name is Dennis Brown.  I have been a Registered Psychologist since 1979 and have worked with the men and women of the Edmonton Police Service for more than 20 years.  I have provided a variety of services to the members and their families during these years ranging from one-session, one-person consultations to multiple sessions with one or more people in a consultation, coaching, or therapy format. I am particularly interested in helping people during those unexpected, often unwanted times of change and life transition that we all experience.  Whether it is an individual, marital, family, or work group problem, I believe that no crisis should be wasted and that the challenge is, to use the old cliché, how to transform the lemons life throws at us into lemonade.  To put it another way, the challenge is to find a way that doesn’t leave us bitter, but instead enables us to enjoy the sweetness of life or at least better able to tolerate the bitter sweetness of life.  This often means first learning how to make sense of the difficult, painful, often overwhelming emotions that accompany unwanted change and then learning how to develop and implement more useful perspectives that enable us to cope more effectively or even thrive in our new reality.

My areas of particular interest are:

• Anxiety, Depression and Burnout
• Marital or relationship counselling or therapy
• Family counselling or therapy where there is a family member with mild to moderate symptoms of anxiety, depression, or impulse control

My office is located in a condominium complex relatively close to downtown, just west of the new Brewery complex, and just off 104th Avenue. My voice mail is confidential.  My office hours are 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday (most weeks), and I am usually able to return phone calls within the day.
