Dr. Starko is a registered psychologist (since 1996). Counselling takes place in a comfortable, relaxed separate home office space having fresh air, total privacy and no parking issues in her west central house (Mackenzie Ravine area). The practice includes assistance offered to individuals having a wide variety of life challenges as well as those who are seeking personal development (finding the ‘growing edge’). Issues encountered can be longstanding and recurring. Other times an immediate crisis occurs and a directive, problem solving approach is necessary. In her current practice, clients present with relationship issues (couples, family, parent-teen rapport, identification of relational needs), employee-employer and professional issues, feeling overwhelmed, anxiety and stress that impact everyday functioning, managing anger/emotional pain and sharing sadness through loss. Several times a year Dr. Starko is involved in a special education facility helping children with high needs providing strategies to educators and parents as well as hands-on intervention in classrooms.
Varied experiences contributed to having a comfort zone with a wide variety of individuals in difficult situations and set the tone for a practical, down to earth approach to problem solving, developing personal insight, and a belief that the approach to therapy is chosen so that it fits the individual person or situation.
