Mat Milen

Mat is a Clinical Social Worker, registered with the Alberta College of Social Workers. He believes that relationship and connecting with others is important in overcoming life's challenges. Mat regularly works with clients to explore how different parts of their lives and experiences affect their thoughts, feelings, sensations and relationships. Through this, he seeks to help folks grow in their understanding of themselves and others, reduce symptoms, and building capacity in light of their traumatic experiences.

Within his practice, he places an emphasis on the concepts of Resiliency and Post Traumatic Growth - the idea that through our experiences and abilities, we are able to “bounce back”, or even build upon our innate capacities as we create change through healing.

Mat uses a number of evidence-based practices, including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR); Somatic Experiencing (SE); Prolonged Exposure (PE); Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT); Motivational Interviewing (MI), and; Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR).

He commonly works with individuals experiencing:

  • Trauma;
  • Substance-related issues;
  • Depression and Anxiety, and;
  • Personality-related issues.
