Guide to Submitting Requests for Information
The Edmonton Police Service’s Administrative Police Information Section is responsible for responding to thousands of requests each year from members of the public, insurance representatives, law firms, and other federal and provincial agencies and programs. These requests are sorted by type and processed by the Information and Privacy Unit or Routine Disclosure.
The following guide will help determine which type of access to information request you will need to submit.
Submitting your Request
Access to records containing your or your client’s personal information may be obtained by submitted a written request to the Edmonton Police Service’s Information and Privacy Unit or Routine Disclosure.
Types of Files Processed
There are separate processes, forms and fees for each area. Please read the following carefully to determine where and how to submit your request.

REQUESTING ACCESS
To make a request please fill out the Edmonton Police Service Request for EPS Files Form. You can download the form here.
All requests MUST include:
- Basic Contact Information on what is being requested and requestor contact information such as a mailing address, email address, and/or phone number
- Consent (of your Insured, Client, Owner/Driver) if making a request on their behalf
- Must be signed and dated within ninety (90) days of your request
- Insurance providers and Law firms are encouraged to provide consent from both the Owner and Driver of the insured vehicle if the two differ, but particularly the Driver’s consent
- Proof of Identification
- A photocopy of Two (2) pieces of government issued identification; one being photo identification (Driver’s license, passport, etc.)
- Payment (See below)
- Please make cheques payable to the “City of Edmonton”. Alternatively, you may pay by credit/debit card at the Police Information Check Section located at Nexus Business Centre, #108, 14315 -118 Avenue between the hours of 8am and 4pm, Monday-Wednesday and Fridays.
PROCESSING TIMES
Generally, it takes 10 business days to process a request through Routine Disclosure, however unexpected delays may occur. You may contact Routine Disclosure for a status update should you not receive your request at routinedisclosure@edmontonpolice.ca.
REASONS A REQUEST MAY BE RETURNED
- You are not a named party in the report
- Unable to locate the report
- The file is still under investigation
- Court proceedings in relation to any charges or violation tickets on the file are still ongoing (partial release may apply)
- Missing Consent if applicable
- Unauthorized to disclose redirect to Information and Privacy Unit
- Fee not included or Incorrect
- Incident occurred outside of the City of Edmonton jurisdiction
- Insufficient information or No EPS file number provided to conduct search. Additional Search fee may apply upon re-submission.
The Routine Disclosure area does not have the resources available to offer expedited service. Requests are processed in the order they are received. There are no exceptions.
PAYMENT DETAILS
The following records are provided Free of Charge:
(File) Search fee - $25.00 + GST ($26.25) per file
This fee is in addition to the Standard Request fee and will be applied to all requests that are re-submitted if insufficient information was provided to conduct an adequate search.
Standard Request - $50.00 + GST ($52.50) per file
Collision Reports, Police Reports, and Confirmation Letters
- Payment is required in full before Routine Disclosure can process your request
- Company Cheques and money orders are accepted. Personal cheques are not accepted and will be returned with your request. Your cheque or money order can be made payable to: “The City of Edmonton”.
