NET is a partnership with: City of Edmonton Community Services, Edmonton Police Service, The Family Centre, and United Way of the Alberta Capital Region.
Shared responsibility for community safety is at the foundation of the NET program. Teams work with residents, businesses and organizations, building sustainable solutions to crime and disorder. From curtailing shoplifting at a liquor store, to traffic enforcement around a school, to participating in a community mural project, Neighbourhood Empowerment Teams promote and support a variety of community safety activities.
The composition of a Neighbourhood Empowerment Team is determined by a defined situation or problem. Teams are customized to offer the combination of skills most likely to result in success. A social worker, youth worker, or police officer may be part of the team. So might a local resident, business owner, social agency representative or bylaw enforcement officer. This integrated approach ensures the right people are working on the right problem.
