Paying your ticket

Red light and photo radar violation tickets:

In April of 2012 Automated Enforcement (Photo Radar) was taken over by the City of Edmonton Traffic Safety. The Edmonton Police Service has oversight of the program as per the Provincial Automated Enforcement Technology Guidelines.

For more information about automated enforcement you can call the City of Edmonton Traffic Safety at (780) 496-5656 or by visiting the Traffic Safety website.

If you received a red light or photo radar violation ticket, as the registered owner of the plate you will receive a Notice of Offence in the mail from the Edmonton Police Service which includes images of the violation. You now have three options:

  1. Pay the voluntary payment on or before the appearance date (see below for details).
  2. Plead not guilty by mailing the notice and by signing the following statement:

"I wish to Plead Not Guilty to the offence I have been charged with and Will Appear at the Trial Date set for me. I understand that I will be advised of this trial date by ordinary mail which will be sent to address on the face of this offence notice unless I indicate a different address below. I understand that should I fail to appear for my trial I may be convicted in my absence without a hearing and I will be responsible for payment of any penalty plus late payment charges that may become applicable."

Mail your notice and statement to:

    Provincial Court of Alberta
    Law Courts
    1A Sir Winston Churchill Square
    Edmonton, Alberta T5J 0R2

  3. Appear before a Justice at the appearance address and date indicated on the reverse. You may plead guilty or not guilty to the offence charged. If you plead guilty, you may make submissions as to penalty and the Justice may grant time to pay. If you plead not guilty, a trial date will be set.
