Hit and Run Collisions

The Edmonton Police Service receives approximately 30 hit and run reports daily. We recognize the need to investigate these reports in an effective manner. Hit and Run unit is responsible for administering of traffic laws and investigation of hit and run collisions not concluded at the patrol level. There is one Sergeant and three Constables.

What to do if you've been in a Hit and Run:

While driving

  • note location
  • suspect vehicle information – plate, make, model, colour
  • witnesses
  • take photos, collect debris
  • if the hit and run is currently in progress, call 911
  • if the hit and run just occurred, call our non-emergency at 780-423-4567 (Or #377 from a mobile device)

Your vehicle was parked

  • note location
  • take photos
  • check for witnesses
  • check for video cameras
  • collect debris
  • Attend a Collision Reporting Centre to make a report     

You did a hit and run

Imperative that you take responsibility. Coming forward even after the fact can be a positive step. Please either

  • Call our non-emergency at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile device or
  • Attend a Collision Reporting Centre to make a report
